The name Bihar is derived from the word Vihara, meaning monastery. Bihar was a great religious centre for Jains, Hindus and, most importantly, Buddhists. It was at Bodhgaya that the Buddha sat under the bo tree and attained enlightenment. Bodhgaya is an excellent place to visit if you want to study Buddhism, and Rajgir, Nalanda and Sasaram are interesting places that are not on the tourist trail. | ||
