ITANAGAR |

Itanagar, the capital of Arunachal Pradesh, is a beautiful historic city, also knwon as the land of the 'dawn-lit-mountains'. It is located to the east of Tawang and has been identified with Mayapur, a city of the 14th or 15th century AD. The new township has modern buildings, bazaars and traditional homesteads. |

Important attractions include old brick fort(Itafort), Buddhist Monastry, Jawaharlal Nehru Museum, Ganga lake(GeykarSinyi) and a Zoo. On the bank of the Bharali river at an elevation of 190 metres is Tipi, an orchidarium with over 7500 orchids. |

TAWANG GOMPA |

In the far north-west of Aruncachal Pradesh. It is a superb location at 3400m, near the border with Bhutan. Dating from the mid 17th century, this is the most important monastery in the north-east. The sixth Dalai Lama was born here. It has an interesting collection of thangkas and a large gilded statue of the Buddha in the prayer hall. Getting here is certainly no picnic - it's 350km from the nearest airport at Tezpur in Assam and you have to cross the 4249m Se La. |

For the truly dedicated wilderness
and wildlife fan, a visit to the Namdapha national park is a challenging goal. A unique
feature of the park is that it is the only park in the world in which four of the great
felines are found viz, the tiger, the leopard, the snow leopard and the clouded leopard. |
